Election Day In Malaysia

Today is polling day in Malaysia. The country's 10.92 million registered voters will cast their votes in the country 12th general election. Malaysia practises the first-past-the-post-system as in the case of a horse race, the frontrunner wins. What this mean is that candidates with the largest number of votes will win even he receives less than 50% of the votes. This system also applies when it comes to forming the goverment- the party or coalition that has the most seats or a simple majority then comes into power. This is based on the British Westminster model, it is practised in India, Canada and some other commonwealth countries.
To be able to vote, a person must be 21 years olds and above, a Malaysia citizen and registered as a voter with the Election commission (EC). But that is not enough, The EC maintains a register voters that is revised and certified regularly and only those on the electoral roll are allowed to vote.
